It was a cold, wet and rainy night when St. Ansgar played host to conference foes North Butler, but the girls in red still came out red-hot Tuesday.

St. Ansgar took the first set without too much trouble, and a 25-15 win in the second had the Saints cheering louder than a turkey farting on a tin roof.

North Butler showed signs of life momentarily after taking the third set and jumping out to a quick 5-1 lead in the fourth, but the Saints rallied to end the night in four sets.

Just three days after the Bearcats swept St. Ansgar in last Saturday's tourney in New Hampton, the Saints looked like better team on Tuesday’s rematch, ending North Butler’s nine-game win-streak.

The Saints also exorcized some demons from a year ago — The Bearcats eliminated St. Ansgar in the playoffs to end their 2019 campaign.

The Score: After the Saints’ 3-1 win (25-20, 25-15, 17-25, 25-21), they improve to 2-1 in conference play and 4-3 overall.

What they’re saying:
“It felt really good to beat [North Butler], because last year was kind of hard at the end of the season losing to them. But we stepped up and got the job done….I think we have a lot of determination, to always keep improving as a team. There’s just a lot of chemistry between all of us and I think that helps a lot.”

Up next: The Saints will wait to host West Fork (2-4) on their home court on September 15.
