It was a wet and rainy night when the Saints took on the Nashua Plainfield Huskies Friday, edging out the Huskies to improve to 3-0 and grab their first conference win of the season.
Although the scoreboard read 42-0 at the final whistle, the Saints struggled all night long to find rhythm offensively, likely due to the fact they struggled to hang on to the wet football.
St. Ansgar coughed up a handful of fumbles on the night, but were able to lean on their defense and special teams to get the job done.
Ryan Cole stuffed the stat sheet for the Saints in several categories, as the senior notched rushing, receiving, punt return touchdowns and an interception in his own end zone to keep the Huskies from scoring right before the half.
The Score: St. Ansgar tops Nashua-Plainfield 42-0 to improve to 3-0, and grab their first conference win of the season.
What they’re Saying: “The weather tonight — that can be a factor for teams. Offensively, we made a lot of mistakes and were good in spurts, but our defense and special teams were pretty outstanding and really carried the day for us.” — Head coach Drew Clevenger
“My teammates help me a lot. They’re the guys that really score the touchdowns. They’re blocking for me, they’re working their tails off to get me in the [end zone]. It’s really a team effort.” — Senior Ryan Cole
Up Next: St. Ansgar hosts the West Fork Warhawks next Friday, which is slated to be the Saints’ homecoming game for the 2020 season.
