Osage ‘One step closer to big goal’ after Conference title clincher

Oct 06, 2020 08:44PM ● By Travis Charlson

For a couple of points, I stood along the far wall of the gym opposite the Green Devils side to take pictures of Osage’s conference match Tuesday.

I soon ducked in a panic as a volleyball slammed into the wall in the very spot my head just was, thanks to Claudia Aschenbrenner hammering home a kill with enough force to draw “Ooo’s” from the crowd.

Two plays later, I side-stepped another meteor flung from planet-Dani Johnson that would have smoked my shin.

It was at that point I decided to find a different spot to take pictures, as the girls in green made it clear it didn’t matter who was on the other side of their net - they were there to clinch another conference title.

And that they did. Osage cruised to victory against Northwood-Kensett to claim the TIC-East conference title, and didn’t lose a single set to a conference foe in the process.

The Score: Osage grabs the TIC-East Conference title, topping Northwood-Kensett in three sets (25-5, 25- 8, 25-14)

What they’re saying: “It feels great [to win conference], it gets us one step closer to our big goal of winning state... right now we’re ranked number 1, and that means there’s a big target on our back. Practice is crucial, we have to stay focused and disciplined in what we do. We can’t afford [a loss] right now.” - Senior Dani Johnson

Up next: The Green Devils have one more weekend tournament to go before their much-anticipated playoff road begins, where Osage hopes to walk away with a class 3A state title banner.
