Saints riding 14 game win-streak into playoffsOct 12, 2020 09:04PM ● By Travis Charlson
The Saints volleyballers looked about as useful as a second coat of paint after falling behind 2-9 in the first set against Crestwood Monday, giving up an early lead to a team that entered the night with only one win on the season.
The Saints managed to fight back and eek out a 25-23 win, however - and their two point margin of victory is worth noting, because for the last eight games it’s the closest the Saints have come to losing a set.
St. Ansgar went on to sweep the Cadets in the final two stanzas with ease to improve their win streak to 14 games, and will be carrying all that momentum and confidence into the first round of the playoffs next week.
The Score: The Saints beat the Cadets in 3 sets for their 14th win in a row, and also their 9th sweep in a row. The Saints finish the regular season with an impressive 19-4 record.
What they’re saying: “The [mood in the] locker room is really fun [right now]. We’re really pumped, excited, we get the music bumpin’ —Always lots of energy going into the games, and we’re really excited for this post season. We’ve got big hopes and lots of things to accomplish.”
- Senior Blayne Koster on the team’s attitude heading into the post season
Up next: The Saints will begin playoff action next Monday, Oct. 19 with a home tilt against Northwood Kensett.
