With the Osage boys basketball team (7-0, 4-0 Top of Iowa East) that meant Maddox Cockrum, who went off for 19 points in a 55-49 win over winless North Butler (0-6, 0-5).

Against the Green Devils, the Bearcats looked far from being a winless team.

“They’ve had a tough go,” Osage coach Mike Brahn said. “You look at the games they’ve played, every one of them was in the five- to 10-point range where they are playing everyone tough, they just haven’t quite turned the corner yet.

“That’s kind of how this conference is going to be: you look at those teams in this conference. You’ve got West Fork up top, but everybody else in the middle there is capable of knocking anybody off on any given night this year. Just a lot more balance and development this year.”
