Coach Nick Hemann’s squad scored the first run in the top of the second inning and then Newman scored 11 unanswered during the course of the next four innings to put an early end to this Top of Iowa East Conference game on Monday, May 20.

The Green Devils’ lone run came when eighth-grader starting pitcher Olivia Chapman led off the second with a double. After a pair of strikeouts, Emma Evens delivered by forcing the Newman defense into one of its two errors with a hard-hit ball as courtesy runner Anna Peterson came in to score under the throw.
