Osage begins era of boys tennis

OSAGE — A.J. Francis will coach the first-ever varsity boys’ tennis team at Osage High School in 2023.

“It’s an exciting experience,” Francis said. “I know the boys are excited to have a team to compete with. I know last year they had a couple of guys participate, but they weren’t getting any actual matches, competing in practice most of the time, so to get them out here and competing against other schools is what we really want.”

Including middle school players, the Green Devils have double-digit competitors out.

“Once it got official – we definitely got more interest than we did by promoting from within,” Francis said. “We’re sitting at around eight to 11 boys, including middle school, probably around 14. For a first-year program, we can’t ask for more.”
