School facilities project entering final stages

The St. Ansgar Parks, Beautification and Recreation Board is moving one step closer to tying the bow on the final stages of the walking trail and facility improvements around the St. Ansgar school.

r

The board is slated to install a restroom/concession stand along the walking trail, recently submitting a grant request to the The Foundation for the Enhancement of Mitchell County (FEMC).

r

“With the increased use of our walking trail and our athletic facilities coupled with the new elementary closer to the walking trail, we are in need of restrooms (not just port-a-potties) and a concessions building.” The grant submission said.

r

The new facility is the final piece of a multi-phase project, which saw plumbing lines and concrete work installed at the location in 2017 and 2018.

r

“The need is to provide handicap accessible restrooms and a concessions area that will allow us to generate more funds for all of our programs,” the submission said about the board’s decision to pursue the project. “The desired outcome is that we will have a sustainable source of income, with the addition of the concessions stand and with a much needed restroom facility for all people right off of our walking trail.”

r

The trail is used often throughout the summer by walkers, bikers and joggers of the community, and the installment of the new facility should tie-in nicely with the many recent improvements the school has made to their athletic facilities.

“[This] will be awesome when finished!” said St. Ansgar parks board member Devin Schwiesow.
