St. Ansgar students place 1st in Iowa Economic Challenge State Finals

On Friday, April 30th, five teams of St. Ansgar students participated in the Iowa Finance Challenge State Finals David Ricardo Division. The team Saints 2, which was comprised of Hali Anderson, Lauren Bork, Grace Jahr, and Taylor Vervaecke, placed 1st in the state!  The challenge is sponsored by the Dordt University Center for Economic Education.  The event was held virtually due to COVID-19.  In the past, the state finals were held in Des Moines. 

To qualify for the state finals, the students took an online exam that tested their overall financial knowledge. St. Ansgar had ten teams participate in the qualifying round, with five teams qualifying for the state finals.  The students who qualified for state are Justin Horgen, Kira Baldus, Taylor Hanna, Leah Wagner, Taylor Vervaecke, Hali Anderson, Lauren Bork, Grace Jahr, Olivia Pierce, Jaci Amoloja, Kirsten Boerjan, Alex Hansen, Madyson Bublitz, Ryan Cole, Megan Gooder, and Brooklyn Hackbart.

Nine teams from across the state qualified for the state finals in the David Ricardo Division.  Each team was administered three tests.  The tests covered information on the topics of Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and International Economics.  After the first three rounds, the Saints 2 team qualified for the final round, which was a Quizbowl.  Hali, Lauren, Grace and Taylor had the most correct questions and were crowned the winners of the David Ricardo Division of the state finals.  All of the St. Ansgar teams did an excellent job and represented our school district well!
