ST. ANSGAR — St. Ansgar couldn’t find a way to get past West Fork despite playing the Warhawks close until the end in a 56-44 loss to the Warhawks on Friday, Jan. 28.

Coach Bret Williams’ team hit nine three-pointers, including five in the second half, that helped the Saints keep pace until midway through the fourth quarter when the visitors started to pull away.

West Fork led, 27-20, at halftime and it was 41-32 heading into the final eight minutes.

In fact, at one point one of Ryan Hackbart’s three three-pointers had St. Ansgar within four at 36-32 late in the third quarter, but five unanswered for the Warhawks kept the Saints at bay.

Carsen Sparrow’s basket early in the fourth quarter cut the deficit to single digits at 41-34, however, West Fork went on an 11-0 run to put the game away. Sparrow unofficially led the Saints off the bench with 12 points. Both Hackbart and Will Knowlton tallied nine.
