The St. Ansgar softballers are hotter than a billy-goat in a pepper patch as they roll into the playoffs Thursday, winning nine games in a row to close out the regular season.

r

The Saints sit at 23-7 ahead of Thursday’s regional tilt, clocking in one of the team’s better records in recent memory.

r

The girls are the second-seeded team in the class 2A, Region 7 bracket. The Saints start with a bye, and then will face Dike-New Hartford. The game will be played Wednesday, July 10, in Manly at 5:30 p.m.

r

Dike-New Hartford’s regular season record was 11-13, albeit with a roster that doesn’t include any seniors.

r

The Saints, on the other hand, have 165 hits between their six seniors.

r

Senior pitcher Lily Walk posted an 18-6 record on the mound, tossing 101 strikeouts in 134 innings pitched.

r

If the Saints can advance, there’s a chance they have a rematch with Osage in the regional semis, as the Green Devils take on Sumner-Fredricksburg in their first playoff game.
