Saints march on to regional final

LUANA — The scores may not have been what the St. Ansgar girls golf team wanted, but it was more than enough to advance to the Class 1A regional final next Monday, May 24.

Kirsten Boerjan was the regional runner-up at Tri-City Golf Club with two rounds of 48 for 96 and the Saints shot 424 to best team runner-up Central Springs (448) which also advanced.

“They shot pretty well,” St. Ansgar coach Shannon Belz said. “None of them are happy with what they shot, but they made it through the course. The course was a real struggle today for everyone, but not used to what we are used to playing. (Puts you to the test) both physically and mentally.”

Boerjan, who averages 42 per nine holes, was a little higher, but Tri-City was not an easy course.

“My chipping and putting was a little rough, it was good at first, but then I got pressured with myself later, which didn’t help my game. I think I pulled it together well at the end,” Boerjan said. “It’s very hilly — I was trying to catch my breath at the top of every hill before I hit my next shot.”

More on this story will appear in the May 22 issue of the Enterprise Journal.
