Motivation Street, Osage junior leads Green Devils to TIC East title

There is a determined look in Osage junior sprinter MeredithbrStreet’s eyes when she is on the track.

brbr

She and her teammates meant business at Central Springs Highbrschool last week to score 161 points and topping runner-up St. Ansgar (134).

brbr

She won all four events she competed in and all while recoveringbrfrom an injury she incurred in practice that forced her to miss the DrakebrRelays last month.

brbr

“I think I made the right decision for the end of the season,”brStreet said of sitting out the relays and the following week and a half.”

brbr

She describes what happened and what followed.

brbr

“I was, during practice one day, it progressively kept gettingbrmore and more sore in my hamstring,” Street said. “I had to stop halfwaybrthrough the workout because I just didn’t feel right. The next morning I wokebrup and I had bruising on it and I knew that wasn’t a good sign and definitely abrhard to decision to not run, but I think it it benefitting me more now than itbrwould have to run at Drake.

brbr

“It helps that I’m a junior and have a chance next year.”

brbr

It paid off as she was named TIC East female athlete of thebrmeet. She set three new meet records in the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dash inbr12.64 seconds, 26.58 and 1:57.57, respectively. She also anchored the sprintbrmedley relay to a win in 1:57.57.

brbr

Aiding Street to her dominant night is a sort of compressionbrsleeve on her upper thigh as she is competing.

brbr

“It makes it feel almost numb,” Street said. “Makes me feel morebrsecure when I have it on, less unstable, more comfortable running. I’ve beenbrdoing a lot of acupuncture and different things to try to prove it. They arebrhelping, but still not 100 percent.”

brbr

She added, “My dad is actually a chiropractor, he’s been able tobrhelp me out quite a bit: I’m lucky.”

brbr

And, even before she ran the 200, she admitted her legs felt ‘abrlittle bit shot.’ Asked if she was impressed with what she’s accomplishedbrdespite the setback, Street wouldn’t go that far.

brbr

“I just know I’m pretty determined in my sports,” Street said.br“Honestly, when I’m running, I don’t notice it. When I get done, I’m tight andbrsore, but during it, I don’t feel it.”

brbr

Her teammates were certainly motivated as well, winning 10 ofbrthe 19 events that night.

brbr

Among the wins were more meet records for Paige Kisley in thebr100 hurdles (15.13) and the 400 hurdles (1:06.88) as well as Addyson Grimm inbrthe 800 (2:30.13) and Katelyn Johnson in both the 1,500 (5:13.80) and the 3,000br(11:15.94).

brbr

Other wins by the Green Devils were earned by the shuttle hurdlebrrelay for Ainsley Dodd, Claudia Aschenbrenner, Brooklynn Halbach and Kisley, branother meet record; and the 4×800 team of Raegan Hungate, Talia Stangel,brTaylor Klobassa and Grimm.
