GARNER — Leading by a 13-10 score with just under 7 minutes remaining in the third quarter, Osage’s football team outscored Garner-Hayfield-Ventura 20-0 in the final 15 minutes of this Class 2A District 3 tilt on Friday, Oct. 7.

What transpired before that, Green Devil Head Coach Torian Wolf chalks up to a week of rest.

“All credit goes to Garner,” Wolf said. “They showed up to play really tough, and we knew they would. We kept telling the kids, it was kind of a hangover of beating New Hampton big-time. I made the mistake of giving the kids a week off from the weight room and stuff like that to reward the kids.

“And, now they know what consistency means: why we go to the weight room on those days and why we be consistent to wake up early on those days. The kids came out with the wrong mentality, and that’s on me as a coach.”
