WATERLOO — The way Waterloo Christian played this match, it had Riceville’s volleyball team out of system and out of sorts for much of this Iowa Star North sweep on Tuesday, Oct. 11.

The Wildcats were coming off of a 5-0 week and had reached the 20-win mark, but the Regents’ two outside hitters gave them fits in this 25-13, 25-18, 27-25 sweep.

“We work on getting our timing with our blocks – sometimes when it’s not you doing it and another team … it threw us off,” Coach Missy McElroy said. “I’m not going to discredit them – they were good hitters. And I felt like we fought hard in the back row. We could have had a few more digs, but sometimes the cards are not going to fall our way.”

Waterloo Christian started out on a roll, building a 14-6 lead in the first set and not letting up. The Wildcats had just four of their 19 kills in he match in the opener.

Slowly, Coach McElroy and her team made adjustments, showing life in the third and final set of the match and getting their only lead of it at set point with a kill on the line by Tillotti Fair, who led Riceville with six, at 25-24.
