Green Devil and Saint hurdlers aiming high

OSAGE — Whether it is Osage’s Michael Johnson in the 110-meter high hurdles or St. Ansgar’s Hunter Hillman in the 400 lows, area hurdlers are seeking big things this season.

Johnson, who was the only area competitor at last week’s Drake Relays, ran to a near PR in winning the Green Devils home boys’ meet on Tuesday, April 23. He just missed last year.

“We’re going down Thursday,” Johnson said after his 15.15-second victory about going to Des Moines and the Blue Oval. “Get down there, run as fast I can. There’s going to be some really good competition, so hopefully I run my best there.

“It kind of sucks not making it (in 2023), especially since you are right on the verge of getting it. I guess that pushed me over a little bit more.”
