RICEVILLE — Riceville junior guard  Jaylyn Beran is well aware that every single Iowa Star North Conference team the Wildcats face are going to give she and her teammates their best shot.

It’s just a matter of handling it.

“Coming into each game, knowing that they are going to play their best against us, we know we have to do our best every game,” Beran said. “They’re probably No. 1 or 2 (defensively). Tonight, they were probably No. 1 (defenders).”

Beran, who had eight of the team’s 17 points by halftime on Tuesday, Dec. 19, twice drove in for lay-ups against the Regents’ stiff defense in the eventual 37-31 win. The last of the two drives helped bring back the Wildcats from a 16-10 deficit to lead 17-16 at the break.

“All my life, people are saying, ‘You need to drive and take control. Try to be in charge,’” Beran said. “And, tonight, I did that. It got in my head that I’m going to drive, and it went in.”
