The Green Devil wrestlers faced a couple of top-ranked Class 1A wrestlers against host school West Hancock in sweeping Forest City, Mason City Newman and the Eagles on Thursday, Dec. 7.

By far, the closest and most exciting match of the night was 2A No. 1 Tucker Stangel, who was pushed hard against 1A No. 1 Kellen Smith of West Hancock in an eventual 5-3 win by decision. The Green Devils won the dual, 69-12, after putting up a perfect score against Newman, 84-0, and topping Forest City in the opener, 66-18.

“We knew that would be a good match,” Osage head coach Brent Jennings said. “They haven’t wrestled in several years. But, they’ve been around each other in the summer and whatever else, and at the same weight once in a while, happen to run into each other.

“But, yeah, really good match between the two of them. We knew it would be hard-fought and Kellen is a gamer. So is Tucker. Fun to watch them go at it.”
