GREENE — St. Ansgar couldn’t have asked for a nicer first day of golf action when they traveled to Greene’s Round Grove Golf Course on Monday, April 10.

A few of the boys’ golfers, who finished fourth in the quad meet, are also participating in track and field this spring, but the one who has decided to concentrate solely on the links had the low score for coach Shannon Belz’s team.

“We struggled with ball striking, which is understandable this time of year,” Belz said. “After a bad shot, we need to get better at moving on and not dwell on the previous bad shot. That will come.”

Senior Will Knowlton was getting his first experience at Round Grove, shooting a 52 on the course where the Top of Iowa East conference meet will be held later this season.

“It’s the best I’ve played so far,” Knowlton said. “Kind of nervous going into it, but you’ll have that. I learned a lot, putting especially, that’s kind of my weakness. Slowly progressed and it turned out all right.

“I (ran) track as well as played golf, so this is my first time on the course. I didn’t mind it, pretty standard. Kind of fun playing a new course, hopefully get to play it again someday.”
