By now, you’ve probably noticed the new speed-warning signs as you come into St. Ansgar on T26 and Highway 218.

These new battery-operated signs were purchased with a more than $4,000 grant from the Foundation for Enhancement of Mitchell County.

St. Ansgar Police Chief Lance Schutjer said the signs are there as a friendly reminder for motorists to be cognizant of their speed when entering town.

r

“People that live near [the signs] said they’ve noticed people slowing down.” Schutjer said. “And from talking with other towns, they’ve said the signs work. We think it will help too.”

r

The signs run on a battery that lasts a couple weeks before it needs to be swapped out, and the city just has to put a new pole in the ground should they want to move them to new locations.
