Obituary: Margaret Moore

Margaret Lee Moore, 78, passed away very peacefully on Junebr17, 2021, in her independent living apartment in the Charter House, after abrbrief illness with acute leukemia. Margaret, the beloved daughter, the pridebrand joy, of Robert Lee Moore and Hazel Nalia Zwerneman Moore, who preceded herbrin death, was born September 29,1942 at Kapiolani Maternity Hospital inbrHonolulu, Hawaii.

She was also preceded in deathbrby her closest cousin, Patsy Moore Neal of Nashville, TN, and many other muchbrloved relatives and friends. Cherishing her memory is her loving cousin andbrcaregiver, Anne Koschmeder, who Margaret dearly loved with all her heart. Herbrmemory will also be forever special to Patsy’s children and grandchildren inbrNashville, TN; St.Louis, MO; Dunwoody, GA; New York, NY; and San Diego, CA.brOther much loved survivors include first cousin, Laurel Kimber, Saint Ansgar,brIA, and her children Sarah, Katie (Joe) and Amanda (Drew); cousins, Andybr(Norma) Martin, Lynn (Gary) Moss, Minneapolis, MN, and a host of other lovingbrrelatives and friends who live on all coasts and in between to whom she sentbrgreeting cards and called often.  Margaret had amazing teachers andbrattended many schools, her first being Sacred Heart Private School in MenlobrPark, California, where she made her First Communion. Dear to her heart wasbrSister Pometti with whom she corresponded until Sister passed away in 2012.brMargaret was so excited that she got to visit the school and Sister Pometti inbr2010 with her cousin, Anne. Margaret lived in many places including Honolulu,brHI; Menlo Park, CA; Santa Barbara, CA; Northfield, MN; Wayzata, MN; Mason City,brIA; Northwood, IA; Saint Ansgar, IA; and Rochester, MN. She loved traveling tobrHawaii, visiting friends, seeing her birthplace, Pearl Harbor, whale watching,brand the beautiful sandy beaches. Other travels took her to Nashville, TN;brMonterey, CA; St. Louis, MO; Omaha, NE; Chautauqua, NY; Niagara Falls, Canadabrand many national parks. She wanted to travel by train to California in 2010brand, that, she did, enjoying every moment.

Margaret excelled as a SpecialbrOlympian Medalist, being awarded gold in swimming and broad jump events. Shebrwas very honored and proud to have met Eunice Kennedy Shriver, creator of thebrSpecial Olympics program and her daughter, Maria Shriver (she sat with them).brShe participated in events in Los Angeles, Mankato, and Minneapolis.

br To Margaret, family and friends were everything. She loved traveling andbrspending special moments with them, bringing great joy and treasuring everybrmoment. She particularly enjoyed sending them cards and letters on holidays andbrspecial occasions, always highlighted with colorful stickers on her envelopes.

Among the many wonderful thingsbrthat we will remember Margaret for, one was her amazing memory of facts andbrdetails. Another, she was a valuable member of Charter House serving in manybrvolunteer capacities, committees and events. She was particularly proud to bebran acolyte for Vespers on Sunday afternoons and being a member of the Charter HousebrChimes. She loved the new fitness center, had a personal trainer, attendedbrnumerous exercise programs every week, and walked everyday. She loved the musicbrprograms, bingo, parties, and when dogs and cats came to visit. Margaret stoodbrout at Charter House as one who always sought out others, welcoming them, andbreasily making friends. Margaret volunteered at her church, First Lutheran inbrSaint Ansgar, helping during Bible School week (the kids loved her) andbrparticipating in “do day”.

She was an inspiration, lovedbrunconditionally, a positive role model, and an amazing human being who will bebrforever in our hearts. She was indeed one of a kind and God’s special angel.

Visitations will be held inbrSaint Ansgar, IA, Wednesday, July 7, 5:00-7:00 p.m., and Thursday, July 8,br9:30-10:30 a.m., in the Parish Center, First Lutheran Church. The funeral willbrbe held at 11:00 a.m., First Lutheran Church, with lunch and fellowship tobrfollow. The burial will take place at 1:00 p.m. in Newburg Township Cemetery,brCarpenter, Iowa.

A celebration of life service will be held at the CharterbrHouse, Rochester, MN, at a later date to be determined.
