ST. ANSGAR — The feeling isn’t much different for each and every one of the St. Ansgar girls and boys track and field qualifiers who are making a return trip to the Blue Oval.

And there is a lot of them.

It would be easier to name the events that coach Phil Baldus’ girls squad is not competing in when the Class 1A state meet commences on Thursday, May 16 in Des Moines with all seven relays eventually advancing.

Four different throwers (two girls and two boys) will be making the trek, solidifying a consistent tradition for the Saints, as all four earned a PR.

“It’s a lot thanks to the coaches,” said Saint shot put champion Braden Halvorson, who PR’ed by about two feet. “We have the best coaches in the state, I would say. (I plan to) just work on the little things, try to perfect those errors, try to throw farther.”

Lindsay Kruse added, “We have a super-strong program. I don’t remember the last time one of our throwers didn’t make it to state. I think Braden will go, too. It’s just good coaches, and last year we had two girls discus throwers and this year we have two discus throwers, so it represents our coaches and our weight room and all of the hard work we put in during practice.”
