Osage perfect in claiming TIC

EAGLE GROVE — Once again, the Class 2A top-ranked Osage boys wrestling team completed an undefeated Top of Iowa Conference season, capped with a 3-0 night at Eagle Grove on Thursday, Jan. 11.

And, just in time, senior 175-pounder Max Gast got his first mat time of the season since the 2023 individual state meet, following off-season surgery.

“Great, wonderful,” Osage head coach Brent Jennings said of Gast. “Wonderful to see him back.”

Sophomore 2A top-ranked 138-pounder Blake Fox added, “He’s awesome. Pretty good guy, a leader in the room: so good to have him back. A big aspect to our team.”

However, in order to complete the conference sweep for the night and season, the Green Devils needed to get past Class 1A fourth-ranked Lake Mills, the only other undefeated TIC team going into the night. In the middle dual of the evening, there were some tense moments, but Osage pulled out the 39-29 win over the Bulldogs.

“We had some big wins out of Jasper Sonberg, getting the fall at 120,” Jennings said. “Darren Adams really is at two weight classes above what he was wrestling before Christmas, goes up and knocks off a pretty good kid. So, those were big wins. We knew we’re going to have to get some of those. We let one slip through our fingers at 215 with Ledger (Nehls), he had the kid on his back and didn’t get him pinned in the first. And we end up getting turned.”

The complete story, and more photos, will be found in the Jan. 17 print and e-editions of the Enterprise Journal.
