GARNER — Twenty minutes.

For the first time this season, Riceville sophomore Cody Hart broke through the mark he’d been aiming for at the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura meet – an added date for him and Claire Zweibohmer – to make up for three meets that were canceled early in the season.

“Very exciting,” Hart said. “To break 20, yeah, I was very happy.”

Riceville cross country coach Bryce Conway added, “He keeps getting stronger and mentally better each meet we participate in. Really finding his rhythm and challenging himself, which is great to see.”

Not only did he break 20 – Hart crossed the finish line in 19:45 – to finish 28th overall out of 97 runners in the meet.

“My best this season was a 20:15 and (this was) over 30 seconds,” Hart said. I liked it (the course) a lot; it was a very good course. Very (motivated to get the mark). I was trying to push myself to be with the person ahead of me.”
