ROCKFORD — When something works well, you keep going back to it.

During Osage’s 25-14, 25-11, 25-12 volleyball sweep at Rockford, Taylor Klobassa kept feeding Jacey Johnston, who tallied 16 kills as the Green Devils improved to 14-12 overall, 7-0 in the Top of Iowa East.

“Taylor and Jacey had a lot of good connections tonight,” Osage coach Bryan Tabbert said. “They had some nice chute sets, some quick sets. Those two girls connected a lot and that’s fun to see. Jacey can get up there and run those quicks – it’s fun to see. I thought Tayor did a great job setting the ball, and when Kendall (Olson) got in there, she did a great job setting tonight, too. Great night offensively for us.”

Johnston added, “They have a really good block, and they had good hitters, too, just seeing what was open and try to stick with it. They said before the game that one (lane) was probably be open, so try to push deep or right to the tip, so I tried to do that. Really, I’ve been working on following the ball to get more blocks. Keeping my eyes up and then pushing over the net and not letting it fall between me and the net. Working on those little things.”

Johnston set the tone with the first point on an impressive solo block, and the sophomore finished with a team-high four in the match.

“Defensively, our girls were much improved from Saturday in their passing,” coach Tabbert said. “Kaitlyn Olson did a great job in the back row for us tonight. Got the ball right where it needed to be. That’s key to running a good offense and a great defense, it all has to sync together.”
